HEALTH in Columbia County is a clinical coalition within Arkansas’ Columbia County. Clients Shadia Walker and Jamie Heflin came to the design department at Southern Arkansas University for help with a logo redesign. The premise of this project was a competitive collaboration to see whose design would be selected as the client’s new logo.

Previously, the logo was a red, white, and blue wordmark logo with a serif and script combination. It also contained the acronym “helping everyone achieve long term health” within the logo. The client wanted help picking a new color palette, making the logo modern, as well as eye catching. My design used the sans-serif font “TT Modernoir” with a cool color palette and adding a bit of an illustrative touch with the heart-like person acting as the eye of the letter A. The word “coalition” was also included since Ms. Walker wanted a sense of community as HEALTH also considers itself this.

In the end, the designs of two of my peers were selected and were to be combined to create HEALTH’s new logo. The competition was a tough one, but I believe I competed well and followed the project guidelines decently. Working with clients won’t always be easy but taking experience from that will help benefit my ability to communicate with potentially future clients.
