Macabre Self Portrait

A digital painting but with a morbid twist; I was in a class dedicated solely to creating digital artworks. Digital Painting was out of my graphic design expertise, but this is where I honed my artistic skills. Professor Zusman was a really ambitious and demanding instructor, she would get in your head for the smallest details but she did it out of care for art. It was the same with this self portrait of mine.

As all digital paintings do, it starts with thumbnail sketches, then narrowed down to rough drafts of thumbnails you really like. In my case, it was a combination of two thumbnails.I worked my this in MediBang Pro, my best friend. In it, I laid the foundation for the composition aka sketches. Then adding the base color, then shadows, then highlights, and finally details. My peers were disgusted and appalled by the final result, which is exactly what I wanted to see. Even my professor commented that she had a “visceral” reaction upon seeing it.

In the end, everyone's works were displayed in the gallery of the art building at SAU, my self portrait has garnered more visceral attention by now I bet.
